With fall right around the corner you are going to want to learn how to make pumpkin pie spice. You don’t have to buy this anymore.

Pumpkin spice is a very common ingredient for many fall recipes. I was recently baking pumpkin cupcakes a few days ago and realized I didn’t have any of this spice available at home. After several trips to the store already, I was not going back out. So, I decided to make my own spice mixture at home. It was so easy and fast it would have taken me longer just to go to the store and buy some.

What is pumpkin pie spice?

Pumpkin pie spice is a common blend of spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and cloves. You can typically find this in the spice section at your local grocery store. This spice is very popular around the holiday times. I’ve found that most store-bought pumpkin pie spices come in such a small container. But the best part of making it at home not only is if more cost efficient you can make as much or as little as want or need.

Making this popular spice is very simple, you will need the following ingredients: ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, allspice (optional), and ground clove. All you need to do is measure these spices into a bowl and mix together. Once spices are completely mixed add the mixture to an airtight container or leftover spice jar. This mixture will last up to a year in your cabinet.

This homemade spice mix is great in all fall baking recipes you can easily substitute pumpkin pie spice for cinnamon and nutmeg. But it is also great in coffee, tea, hot coco, oatmeal, cookies, pancakes, and so much more.
